An afternoon run around the estate in the blazing sun (interval run). Shades came in useful. And then came the rain.

The Dark Knight

Why So Serious?

Managed to catch The Dark Knight as Alexia managed to score free tickets! We were however late in getting the tickets and ended up with front-row seats... well, okay, we got the second row (on the right) from the screen.

Half-way through the show Alexia went: "What's wrong with their shoulders...one side's higher than the other..."

Ans: "We're sitting too close to the screen."

Missing run

Did two runs, one on Friday (25 Jul 08) and one on Sunday (27 Jul 08) which I'm sure both were uploaded onto Nike.com. But somehow today, only one run turned up... weird...

Citi-MilkRun 2008

Missed the Passion Run on 8 June 2008 due to unforeseen circumstances (A.K.A overslept) but managed to turn up for the MilkRun (cos this one started at 3.15pm instead of 6.30am). A 9.4km run starting from River Valley Green, looping around Clarke Quay and Boat Quay and ending back at River Valley Green.

Due to a slight miscalculation, I ended exhausting myself even before the run began. Ran from home to catch a train down to Somerset and ran to the start point. By the time I bumped into Man and Mike I was already perspiring like crazy. The run kicked off around 3.20pm, weather was great, breezy without the hot afternoon sun.

Around 20 minutes into the run, Man had fallen out of sight. Another 10 minutes and I was winded and had to let Mike go on ahead. It was only halfway into the run man! And I was already slowing down to walking now and then. The worst came when ladies started over taking me followed by little kids... T_T

Final timing: 59mins (to be confirmed)
Distance: 9.4km

Hope none of the cameramen caught me slacking (fingers crossed)

P.S: Lessons learned
1. Don't be overconfident (especially since I've not ran in awhile)
2. Know the route (following aimlessly was ultra demoralising)
3. Following behind pretty girls for motivation don't always work

Got Ink?

Onitsuka Tiger

"It might be abit itchy, sometimes abit painful but nothing unbearable." These were the words from my Tattoo artist (Su) that I'll always remember because none of it was true.

Finally got inked! I wouldn't say it's been something I wanted to do since I was still teething like Alexia (yes, I'm exaggerating a little). But it is something that I would like to have as some form of motivation (I can no longer put on weight unless I don't mind getting laughed at).

But never have I imagined it hurt that much!

(Warning! I'll sound like a wuss if you continue reading)

Alexia said "it feels like ant bites." Well that's true if they were fire ants and they were out to chew you to death! You remember when the nurse pokes the needle into your arm to draw blood? Imagine the same thing but a nurse on steroids...

"The most common method of tattooing in modern times is the electric tattoo machine, which inserts ink into the skin via a group of needles that are soldered onto a bar, which is attached to an oscillating unit. The unit rapidly and repeatedly drives the needles in and out of the skin, usually 80 to 150 times a second."

So I just lied there and kept asking what the heck I was doing while Su tattooed away.

Then she said "Okay, we're almost there..."

"The hind legs and the tail are done."

WHAT THE .........

I had thought my pain management has always been pretty good but this was Hell on earth...

"Would you like to take a break?"

"No please carry on." A.K.A Just get it over and done with!

And when she finally said "Okay, it's finished!" after a good 30 mins, my body was trembling beyond my control. Felt like my whole body was protesting to what I had just put it through and I just lied there for a minute for my soul to return.

I'm actually very pleased with the end result but it'll be a few days of maintaining, continuous moisturising and healing before I can see the final stage.

Limped my way home with bouts of aftershocks which lasted for another hour or so...

Sigh... why do we always pay to torture ourselves =)

Lego Death Star

3,800-Piece Death Star Diorama Is Coolest Star Wars Lego Ever!

"Move over Millennium Falcon, because there's a new Best Lego Set Ever in town: the USD400 Death Star. Almost 400 pieces of absolute nerdgasmic technological terror now available to order, showing 14 scenes that happened in the no-moon during the original trilogy. We have all the official information and three high definition photos that show every angle of this amazing set, with 21 amazing mini-figs, including Han and Luke dressed up as Lego Imperial Stormtroopers."

More information can be found at Gizmodo.

Recently bought and completed the AT-ST Star Wars Classic with Alexia. The set has 244 pieces. Someone (me) came up with the clever idea of building the set with one person giving instructions while the other puts the set together. We almost strangled each other to death. So I guess we won't be buying the Death Star.

What???

Today's run was a pretty good workout, but the nike+ recorded a not-so-good pace. The nike website states that the nike+ transponder has a lifespan of around one year. Mine could have been on the shelf for awhile, wonder if it's busted already...

Distance: 3.11 km
Time: 20 mins 11 secs
Pace: 6 mins 28 secs per km (cannot be...)

I'm melting.... at least when I get to wear this...

Manage to chance upon Ploh where they specialize in lush beddings (pillows, duvets, case and covers) and robes. I've this thing about robes and have been on a constant look out for a plush robe for myself (I'm straight, seriously). Everybody has the right to pamper themselves right...

10 K... almost...

First long distance run a long while. Went from home, down through Upper Thomson Road to Bishan Park, covered both the sections of the park then back Upper Thomson and home. Pretty relaxing paced run, no issues after the run which is great. Found it much more enjoyable when there are fellow runners about, not many dogs though (phooey!). Will do East Coast one of these days before the Passion Run.

Distance: 9.58 km
Time: 54 mins 55 secs
Pace: 5 mins 43 secs per km

P.S: The dips shown in my run-progression is due to waiting time at traffic lights

Sweat

Two rounds round the estate, good run. Was doing some calculation, to be able to clock below 10 mins for the 2.4 km run, I'll need to be doing 1 min 39 secs for each 400 m round or 250 secs per km or 4 mins 10 secs per km.

My current average pace is 5 mins 41 secs per km...

Engineering Genuis

Alexia's air-conditioning has been leaking water recently so I decided to come up with some modification for a temporary solution.

Alexia decided to chip in her ideas and the simple plan mutated horribly.... well at least it works...
